2003 Math (Guitar and Vox). |
"Math explains how the band was born: Simon Jones, casework and dedicated batsman, stopped me one day to discuss writing and we swapped CDs. I was impressed and asked if he'd join the band. He accepted and I soon realised he's an excellent keyboardist, an adept improviser and a good vocalist too. |
Andy Turton, plans officer and stalwart goalkeeper, joined soon after. He last played live at a Harrow office gig with the band, Apocalypse Pavarotti. Andy's been perfecting his playing ever since and is now an accomplished bass player. |
Simon says: We started quietly in suburban bedrooms then cranked up the volume at local rehearsal rooms. Now we're booked to play at the Agency Relay in September at Cheriton Village Hall. We promise energy, original material and rip-roaring vocal performances. Look forward to seeing you there. |

2003 - Andy (Bass and Vox). |
I have no idea why I'm trying to mix it with these two great talents. It's either make or break. I can only thank Land Registry for having given me a job to fall back on. Math tells us about the latest band rehearsal: |
At the end of You Do Something to Me by Paul Weller, Andy plucks a descending bass run with aplomb. 'Excellent,' I murmur to myself. 'That was pretty good,' I remark out loud. Andy, still not satisfied, screws up his nose in disdain. |
Halfway through The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead by XTC, I notice that Simon is playing two keyboards at right angles. He pounds piano chords with one hand and plays harmonica with the other. I am so impressed that I forget the lyrics. I improvise. No one notices. 'It's the best we've played so far,' I comment. After four proper rehearsals, it's time for us to play in public - a small venue and receptive audience would be fine." |
